BEC Membership Types
Probationary Membership
When you join the BEC you become a probationary member. The main difference between being a full and probationary member is that you can’t propose or second new members or access the library without a full member present. Probationary Membership last for one calendar year and you automatically get full membership after this period unless otherwise advised.
For new members joining during the year you pay a pro rata rate to cover you up to the start of the new club year. This will be advised at the time of joining. You are expected to pay your subscription at the time of your application.
Ordinary Membership
After completing 12 calander months of probationary membership you will become an ordinary member. This is the standard membership.
Life Membership
Life membership was sold for a then substantial fee to raise funds to build the current Belfry. This is now closed to new members, however we have a number of members with this status. No annual fee is payable for this type of membership and it offers the full benefits available to ordinary members.
Honorary Life Membership
Life membership was sold for a then substantial fee to raise funds to build the current Belfry. This is now closed to new members, however we have a number of members with this status. No annual fee is payable for this type of membership and it offers the full benefits available to ordinary members.
BCA Caving Insurance
BCA Insurance is required by all club members who are still caving. The BCA define two categories for insurance: caver and non caver. They do not however provide a definition of what these description cover but imply that anyone who is involved in any form of caving must have insurance. Therefore if you plan to venture underground or dig on the surface during the club year you must take insurance.
In some circumstances we will waive this fee, if you can prove that you already have BCA approved insurance from another club.
Details of the BCA insurance including FAQ are here.
