1. Introduction

This policy outlines how lost property is managed at the Bristol Exploration Club. Due to the volume of items left behind, we have a simple and efficient system for handling lost property.

2. General Approach

We do not provide long-term storage for lost property. Items found on the premises will be dealt with in accordance with the procedures outlined below.

3. Valueless Items

The majority of lost items have little to no value. Items such as unidentifiable clothing, toiletries, water bottles, and other low-value goods will be disposed of immediately if unclaimed at the time of discovery.

4. Valuable Items

If a lost item appears to be of significant value (e.g., wallets, phones, keys, or high-value personal belongings), we will make reasonable efforts to identify and contact the owner where possible. These items will be retained for a maximum of 2 months. After this period, they may be disposed of, donated, or handed to the relevant authorities as appropriate.

5. How to Claim Lost Property

If you believe you have left an item behind, please contact the Belfry Hut Warden as soon as possible.

You will be required to provide a description of the item and, where applicable, proof of ownership.

6. Unclaimed Property

Items of low value will be disposed of immediately.

Items of moderate value (e.g., branded clothing, accessories) may be retained for up to 1 month before being donated or disposed of.

High-value items will be retained for up to 2 months before being handed to the appropriate authorities, donated, or disposed of.

7. Disclaimer

The Bristol Exploration Club accepts no responsibility for lost items. It is the responsibility of guests and members to keep track of their belongings. Once an item is disposed of or donated, we cannot assist in its recovery.
