The Secret Underground Series is back. At the end of last year Gavin Newman filmed the BEC diggers in action in Rose Cottage Cave. 

This is going to be broadcast in a series of 4 weekly programs starting Thursday 23rd February.

We’ve persuaded
presenter Chris Serle to pull on his wellies and delve into more of the regions
best kept, darkest and muddiest secrets. In four new films Chris and our
skilled underground team explore sites that very few people have ever seen.

We find out about
cave digging, visit the spectacular St Cuthbert’s Swallet, explore calamine and
iron mines, discover what’s left of the world’s first underground funicular
railway, descend into subterranean sabotage shelters and investigate an
underwater railway tunnel that most of us take for granted. Secret Underground
will reveal just how important these caverns have been to the region’s history.
